The CBI is campaigning for a government framework to enable businesses and consumers to take action on climate change.
Our role is to develop policy solutions that will cut emissions, help business manage the risks of climate change, encourage investment in new low-carbon technology and promote an international deal on climate change.
Here are just some of the policy areas we are working on:
Incentives - Tax incentives that penalise high energy use and reward low energy use will encourage business and households to become more energy efficient.
Delivery - Low-carbon roadmaps will set out how the UK can reach emission reductions targets in buildings, transport, power generation and industrial processes in the most cost-effective way.
Trading - The European Union emissions trading scheme is the bedrock of the UK’s low carbon strategy. Ensuring this scheme fulfils its potential in reducing emissions from power generation and energy intensive industry, while supporting international business competitiveness is vital.
Reporting - A standard methodology for reporting emissions will help business understand their carbon footprint and manage the risks of climate change.
Adapting - Government should support business to understand and manage the risks of climate change.
Innovation - Low-carbon innovation should become a national priority. Funding, skills, business support and Government leadership all need to be in place.
International - An ambitious post-Kyoto international agreement is essential to combat the global challenge of climate change.
