Policy

The climate change act commits the UK to cut CO2 emissions by 80% from 1990 levels by 2050.

It now vital that the right policy strategy is set out so that action can be taken at a manageable cost to business and consumers.

The policy decisions over the coming year need to focus on promoting greater energy efficiency and new low carbon technologies.

Securing the UK’s energy supply needs to be a priority and goes hand-in-hand with meeting low carbon targets. We need to take steps to decarbonise our energy supply with a range of new energy sources, renewables, new nuclear and carbon capture and storage (CCS).

Government must work with business and consumers towards a shared objective of a sustainable low carbon economy.
