Climate change remains one of the most critical issues affecting the UK, but in tough economic times it is at clear risk of slipping down the political agenda. Urgent action to cut emissions must be delivered if we are to hit government emissions reduction targets, ensure a future independent supply of energy, and manage rising energy costs.
The CBI’s Climate Change Tracker is an interactive tool developed by the CBI to track progress against the priorities set out in the CBI’s 2007 climate change report, Climate change: everyone’s business.
The Tracker benchmarks the progress of the priorities for action set out in the report, focusing on the immediate decisions and delivery needed up to 2010.
In identifying progress made over the last 12 months by both Government and business the Tracker also enables us to identify what the priorities for 2009 should be.
The Tracker was developed in consultation with CBI members and is a business commentary on progress made by Government and the business community.
Tracking Government progress: For each of the main areas of emissions reduction (power generation, buildings, transport and industry) needed we assessed how far Government action over the last 12 months has helped progress the UK towards the short term 2010 milestones set out in our report.
Tracking business attitudes to climate change: The business section of the Tracker reports on how the CBI has performed against the commitments set out in the CBI 2007 climate change report. We also used data from the latest Carbon Disclosure Project, plus a new annual survey of CBI members to show how attitudes in the business community to tackling climate change have changed over the past 12 months.
